Reaping the harvest of what he sowed in realizing his childhood dreams, the MHAM alumnus-topnotcher has been recently honored by the Professional Regulatory Board of Medicine for his exemplary performance in the most recent Physician Licensure Examination during the Oath Taking of New Physicians held at the Reception Hall, Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City, Manila last May 1, 2018 in the afternoon.
Sitting in front of the inductees together with the country’s top ten performers in the March 2018 Physician Licensure Examination, this year’s 2nd placer, Dr. Jay R. Orehuela, could not contain his instant delight as he received the plaque and certificate of distinction during the oath taking of new physicians in the metropolitan areas.
The 27-year old achiever who made it to the top with a rating of 88.00% was accompanied by the current College Dean, Dr. Ma. Socorro G. Manaloto, who was also acknowledged during the awarding ceremony.
Dr. Jaime C. Montoya, who is the Executive Director of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) was this year’s guest of honor and keynote speaker while Commissioner Yolanda D. Reyes and Dr. Jose Y. Cueto Jr. of Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) also graced the event as inspirational speakers. Current Professional Regulatory Board of Medicine Chairman, Dr. Eleanor Galvez, Dr. Miguel Noche Jr., Dr. Maria Graciela Gonzaga and Dr. Edgardo Fernando completed the line-up of the event’s guests along with respective deans of the different colleges in the country.
Among the college deans who witnessed the recognition ceremony given to the top performers was Dr. Ma. Socorro Manaloto whose presence and support to her former student who attained higher levels of achievement have created an impact and significance to the rewarding event.
“I am proud of Jay because I know he can make it as he worked hard for it and he was really aiming for the number 1 actually. He’s one example of a person who is hard working and tend to get his goals and I know he will be going far along with his aspirations”, Dr. Manaloto said in an interview.
As her first time to be present in a recognition ceremony being the College Dean with a board placer, Dr. Manaloto could not contain her chuckling gesture as she divulged that the other college dean urged the MHAM topnotcher to hand his plaque of recognition to his mother, referring to her. “I was there to support Jay and it was so overwhelming as I was mistakenly identified as his mother but it was a delightful feeling being a mother than being a dean on stage”, she added, smiling at the thought.
Gearing towards the intent to offer four additional degree programs for the next academic year, Dr. Manaloto also highlighted that the school is aiming to get at least a little bit higher than the national passing rate as MHAM aims to be a PAASCU-accredited school.
Having been rewarded and blessed as he truly deserves, Dr. Orehuela in a separate interview said that the recognition given to the topnotchers was indeed an overwhelming experience on his part.
“I did not really expect that we were to sit in front with the other inductees and I think it was really a great privilege to have been recognized among the other passers of the exam and the other members of the audience. We were on stage together with the Board and it was really a good experience”, said the MHAM alumnus-topnotcher.
Vehemently driven to render a valuable service to the suffering humanity in his chosen field, Dr. Jay, in due time, will be taking the Residency Program for Internal Medicine either in Chong Hua Hospital or at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) in Manila where he had his internship. “I have not yet made a final decision as to where to pursue for the residency program between the two but it all depends on preference and priorities upon application”, he added.
Last month, he was also commended and honored by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Cebu City for his exemplary and exceptional achievement in the recent PLE and for bringing pride and honor to the City of Cebu during its regular session at the Cebu City Session Hall.
Joining his fellow MHAM successful examinees and the rest of the PLE passers in Visayas during the Oath Taking Ceremonies of New Physicians on May 20, 2018, Dr. Orehuela is set to give his privilege speech with recognition which will be held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino in the evening.
Marking another medical milestone as the school continued to soar high along its growing years in size and stature, this year, MHAM has produced one hundred twenty-four (124) new Matias doctors who will swear the Hippocratic Oath in the upcoming oath taking ceremonies together with other medical institutions in the region.
